Anime Festival Asia 2010 (AFA X) will be holding its press conference soon where details of the event will be unveiled. You know it is coming and I can say it is coming very soon. We have setup a dedicated forum setup for AFA discussions, located here

AFA started since 2008 with artistes such as May’n and Ichirou Mizuki gracing the event, it further expanded in 2009 with the presence of Nakagawa Shoko and Fukuyama Yoshiki as well as virtual idol “Hatsune Miku” along with guests such as Danny Choo in the event.

What could be in store for 2010 ?

I like what they did with the legs, managing the articulation despite the baggy pants.

Though I seriously find the name “Love Machine” extremely weird.

Apparently Love Machine (damn it sounds so wrong) comes with interchangable eyes, allowing you so change the direction of his gaze.

Fancy another beach queen series by Wave ? Kobayakawa Rinko will be one recommended series. The beach queen series is done by Wave and Rinko-chan is of course hailing from the popular virtual girlfiend game – Love Plus.

The figurine is at 1:10 scale series and comes with 2 face parts.

Overall, the beach queen series is one of the decent figurines around that ain’t big in scale and comes with quite sufficient detail. Pre-orders are open now, do check out Hobby Search which reminds me, my Lucky Star beach queens are arriving soon. ^^

Suzumiya Haruhi Disappearance ver is out for pre-orders along with the figma version, she is wearing her Kouyou Academy school uniform and has her hair down and long, creating a very different appearance compared to the usual Haruhi.

Hordes of human swarm flocked to A.C.M.E II today where anime merchandise from Japan are sold, doujin artists showcasing their works, trading card games were played and most importantly – Touhou Hisoutensoku versus fighting tournament. You may check out the official coverage article at SGCafe

The picture above depicts the amount of  people watching a match that time, an amazing sight.

Fourteen artists/groups were in A.C.M.E II, managed to  meet up with familiar faces from Daiyaku, watzArt and many more. Of course, I have my share of fun during the event too, not forgetting the roots of some lovely photography at such a beautiful place.

Some of the photos were taken with a Sony NEX-5 which I am using it to review its functions, not too shabby although there were some difficulties in manipulating the controls, but I shall talk about that in another article.

Absolutely gorgeous really, showing Nadeko amidst Autumn livery.

I haven’t seen many figures with the legs cropped off though I certainly don’t mind it one bit here.

Her cap is removable so I’m assuming it is magnet attached.

You can also have her in full height if you don’t fancy her cropped ti her knee.

Another lovely figma that is pretty detailed. Persona fans will be familiar who Metis is. Aegis’s self-proclaimed daughter and powerful combat android. Two expressions are included: a normal face and a smiling face. The visor on her head can be lowered to display her in a combat stance.

And once again it is that time of the year as the Changi Japanese School opens itself to visitors for the Natsumatsuri celebration.

Pretty much one of the highlight events of the year where all get to have a small taste of what we commonly see in our anime.

And just like every year, the queue to get in vaguely resembles a zergling rush though much more organised.

Fortunately, we had some advance tickets that allowed us to avoid the ticket buying crush and we got in pretty okay.

Zerglings: “Oh noes it’s a Terran wall! DD=”

Even still, the crowd on the inside was no joke either.

The stalls haven’t changed much, selling the usual overpriced food and drinks.

But hey, as the characters in Lucky Star once demonstrated , it’s not the food and the price, it’s the atmosphere in which you eat it. =3 (kindly refer to Lucky Star Episode 6)

What has changed, however, is that I now have a DSLR and am better equipped to take photos =D

Although it rained in the morning, the weather was kind again this year and provided a bright albeit humid and warm evening.

Cue pictures of sky in 1…2….3.

And as the sun began to set, the activities began.

“Come win your giant Minnie Mouse plushie here!”

This year, they set the game stalls to a corner of the field instead, which I think is a very wise decision as it greatly reduces congestion at the food stalls.

Though I wonder if they had any contingencies if it had rained.

The stage performances also began, with Taiko performances, Cheerleading and a Soccer demonstration (most of which the photos sucked because my telephoto lens was too slow).

Soon the sun fully set and final event, which was the Bon Odori, finally started and everybody (well mostly) joined in to dance in a circle around the main stage.

Well, I had my fun meeting DA, inferno, Fariz, touching Fuzzy’s fuzzy head as well as meeting all the others.

Also had my fun dancing =3c

Certainly look forward to next year.

Looking for some interesting figma props? se.kirara series seems to have lots of them and with Shizuno Izumi, it is going to be interesting. Lets see what this figma has.

Very lovely character she is. Shizuno Izumi is one of the lead characters from the visual novel by Max Factory, launch date is somewhere in November this year so do pre-order if interested.

I had the good fortune to have been invited to attend a Dollfie Meet down at Vivocity last saturday.

Certainly, it was my first proper Dollfie shoot rather than some on the whim impromptu shoot.

That said, it wasn’t really that formal a shoot and more along of the lines of picking up whoever was close by and shooting but hey, we all got to start somewhere right? =3

The shoot was split into indoor and outdoor sessions due to rain in the early part of the meet.

Even then, the sun was pretty bright and with the help of a nearby window and my trusty reflector, I managed to get myself some close up portrait shots.

The problem I have with Dollfies is that I have a rough idea how much they cost.

And it is that cost that scares me.

Given my track record with my figmas, I am justifiably apprehensive in handling these human-shaped pieces of gold.

Still, it made for an interesting change from shooting the usual figurines and perhaps felt more along the lines of shooting chibi-fied cosplayers perhaps?

I’m certainly tired of chasing the stupid sunset that never comes.

I honestly feel Mother Nature has a thing against me.

I really do wonder how much time and money is spent on this hobby.

Not that I am a stranger to splurging on my hobby *looks at figurines and camera equipment >_>*

Listening to them talk (the owners not the dollfies), it almost sounds like they are taking care of a little cosplayer of their own, with all the talk about wigs, tailors and clothes.

Certainly different from being with the WLNF gang heh heh…

We moved outside from here on since the sun finally decided to chase the rain clouds away.

It was great for awhile, until the evil glare of the sun made things a little difficult.

Still, we made do with what we had and even then, the weather was still relatively comfortable.

People familiar to Vivo City would know that the roof top features a large shallow water feature for people to wade and otherwise soak their feet in.

Taking advantage of that, I tried to incorporate a little H Two O in to my shots.

And getting my underwear wet in the process.

I really have to thank Alex for being willing and daring enough to get his Suigintou wet for the “greater cause that is photography”.

Certainly the shots of her here would not be possible otherwise.

I also have to thank Demonick Angel for inviting me as a photographer for the event. It was an enjoyable experience to say the least.

I look forward to the next time then. =3

The warrior priestess maiden from Masakado Shine – Tomoe, nendofied. Well for folks who have never heard of her before, she is from Queens Blade action anime. Sculpted by FREEing folks using the Nendoroid theme, she comes with replaceable parts and of course some expressions!
