So who is Mr Curry? No clue? Don’t really care? Folks who are keen in Japanese curry should give it a try at the new outlet in Marina Square in 01-138B (or 138) which opened last month. That’s right, a food outlet that specializes in Japanese curry and sweet delicacies.

With the usual WLNF gang, we brought our lovely nendoroids and figmas along!

Price-wise it’s pretty okay. The food is pretty decent too with the omu-rice with curry being quite a nice choice.

They serve all kinds of stuff too.

Azunyan fever is prolly on the rise now, Alter’s Nakano Azusa from K-ON! is now up for pre-ordering grabs on Hobbysearch as a 1/8 scaled figure. Not long ago, the fever for the nendoroid version was at awesome heights with the first batch sold out in a a couple of minutes. So what does Alter’s version have ?

Keep in mind that this is a scaled figure so dun expect some kind of nendoroid cuteness but Alter’s version has its charm. Alter’s Azusa will include 2 pats of the fringe, one of which is with cat ears. Ah yes, the moe-ness. The expression on her imbues the shyness of her character that we all know from the anime. Akiyama Mio by upLark is a 1/8 PVC model based on the character from K-ON! Personally, I have not heard of upLark before  ORZ.. .but details of this figurine seems pretty well detailed enough, especially her facial expression and the guitar.

This version of Mio is based on her first-time stage appearance in the anime where she wears the gothic dress made by Sawako sensei. :3

Seems like Maxfactory is really going on the double along with Tsukasa from Lucky Star. This one is Miyuki figma Summer uniform version. Goodsmile have indicated the same September release this year at 2500 yen. Included are head parts for Iwasaki Minami, the mysterious cat-like creature ‘Nyamo’ and Miyuki’s glasses.

I know someone here is definitely going crazy over it..heh

Ever since my last post of my room back in Anime Banzai! when I got my current IKEA table, I have yet to make any posts as to the current state of my figurine collection.

If you have been following my figurine reviews, it should be pretty obvious that my collection is a hell lot bigger than back in our Anime Banzai! days. And with a layer of dust having gathered, it was high time for some cleaning and re-arranging.

The main trigger for this bout of cleaning was actually due to my recent acquisition of some acrylic stands. They make for better display of my Lucky Star Shrine although I’m going to need more stands with the coming of figma Signum and the Konata X Kanata treasures set.

This isn’t just all, according to Aryaden from Otakucafe forums, he still have 11 boxes to deal with and 5 more new Figmas on the way. Gosh, The Banzai! Effect is wondering how heavy is this Figma Wall Of Doom and yes, this is not some Japanese otaku’s collection but from Singapore.

Twin sisters Kanade and Yukino Sakurai from online anime Candy☆Boy are now up for reservations! These two 1/8 scale beauties are done by Goodsmile Company and will be released in Sept 2009.

Just to share figurines’ photos I took, back at Comic Fiesta 2008, which is held at Sunway Pyramid, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The display exhibition over there was one of the highlight for me, probably around 15-20 metres long and 3 rows full of figurines!

A figurine-heaven I believe.

Note: I’m not really a figurine shooter, so photos won’t be fantastic, but still hope you guys will enjoy viewing it.

It would seem that even the powers of moe and PVC is not immune to the recent poor economic outlook as figurine suppliers in Singapore are hit with what seems to be a flood of payment issues…

Here’s a post by the owner of Black Technology on the popular SGcafe forums.

I don’t want to do this but supplier and I are already at our limits with customers taking their own sweet time collecting their orders and dragging others with them.

Suppliers are fed up and have told me to post an ultimatum, and honestly, so am I. We are getting sick of excuses for delaying collection and more than half of the last 2 week’s orders remain uncollected. Times are bad, but errant and slow collection is making things hard for us and the supplier.

With this I have posted the ultimatum they gave. If by this Wednesday orders remain uncollected, I will cease all future orders of Figurines. The deposits alone barely allow us to pay and let supplier break even, and we are NOT the only store being faced with customers who delay their collections.

In the worst case scenario, all future orders will be canceled as well. (Deposits will be refunded) and we will redirect you to other stores who will are able to takeover your preorders (at higher rates in a worse case scenario).

Yup, errant buying and collecting has finally pissed off our supplier both local and overseas. Congratulations my dear Singaporeans, your very actions brought this about.

As for punctual and regular customers who have fulfilled their orders. We thank you, and apologize that if by Wednesday 8/4 the errant ones still refuse to fulfill their orders, we cease all sales of Figurines that are yet to come. Honestly, with the attitudes some are giving, I’m finding selling our other merchandise alot more profitable. That I dare say.

And its not only us, in the next few months, other figure shops will follow the same path.

Sadly, this can only go poorly for the fans here. As it is, getting stuff down here is hard enough and I, for one, am grateful that Singapore has such shops to provide easy access to such goods (though maybe I shouldn’t since they essentially made it too easy for me to spend my money =P).

I would most certainly, however, prefer such shops over online shops where shipping would be something to contend with.

If I were to hazard a possible reason, I would suspect that this is a snowball effect due to one customer placing pre-orders for the same item across multiple shops to maximise the chance of getting a popular item. Quite a few shops here don’t collect deposits so it is no loss to the customer. Now just imagine if that were multiplied by quite a few times. It would be a time bomb waiting to explode (much like a certain recent disaster).

Or it could be a case of buying the pre-ordered item from some other shop that brought it in earlier (which in a way is rather irresponsible imho).

Either way, this is destroying the good will that the shops extend by not collecting deposits.

So if you are reading this and have stuff to collect, please do so. From what I know, this (the delay in payments) has been happening for quite some months now though the current situation has simply pushed it to the tipping point.

Support the industry! No need to make the lives of figurine collectors down here worse >_>

For the past 3 months, Vr-zone Forums started an interesting post and poll on a interesting yet a re-visited sensitive topic – downloading of subbed animes.

Their topic of discussion – Does Downloading Of Subbed Animes Enhance The Sales of Merchandise ?

Many fans and lovers of animes are aware of the Odex saga that happened some time ago, an event that shook the anime blogosphere and even the general public. Many are aware of the  “famous” letters sent to the selected people who are accused of downloading animes via Bit Torrent, captures of the audit logs of the files downloaded were attached as well. The recent spate of course, was that Japanese companies are suing the parties directly.

While we are not gonna touch on the legal issues and the sensative points that relates to who is right when it is about downloading of animes. Instead, the question, or rather, Vr-zone forums’s poll – Does Downloading Of Subbed Animes Enhance The Sales of Merchandise ? holds any truth in it .

From my own opinion, the anime community scene in Singapore is pretty obvious – fansubs are heavily relied upon in the past for fans to watch the new animes and in return, purchase related merchandise for it and even participating in events.

Looking at a few examples from the posts made in that thread,

kinda agree with this. All the goods u see @ sunshine “those new ones” how will the people know of the existence? if u nvr play the galge/watch the anime, will u get those figures?

boils down to:

NO SUBS = NO FIGURE = NO SALES = NO MOOLAH!!

Its more of these anime companies making profits mainly out of merchandise rather than selling their anime series.
The widespread of ‘subbed’ anime are mainly helping in promoting these animes , otherwise how would us , get to watch animes and to be fall in love with it….although piracy is wrong but it is inevitable to say that these fansub services have done some help in spreading the ‘love’ around.

To be honest, I would not have purchased merchandise related to Lucky Star, Haruhi, Utawarerumono, Macross Frontier, Kanon, etc if not for the awareness created by fansubbed animes and I wonder, without the fan subbed anime scene before, would shops like KKnM and Latendo generate a massive community ?  Kanon did made me went to KKnM and bought a small “poster for my CPU’s side panel though

This nendo is simply one of the best nendos I have seen, it is so cute!! :D It will be available in May @ a price of 3334 yen. If you do not know her, she is from Kannagi and her name is Nagi, a guardian goddess.

Alter’s Kawazoe Tamaki will be available in May this year and retailing at 5800 yen. Lovely blend of colors there.

The release of Kawazoe Tamaki was supposed to be earlier but was delayed (source: http://wcloudxkumo.wordpress.com/), it will be slated for release in March and available for retail @ 6800 yen. The accessories are as what you see in the picture. Comparing both Tamakis, which is your prefered choice ?
