Moe Moe Kyun Maid Cafe Hints A Return

Remember the moe moe kyun maid which debuted her first appearance during AFA 09 ? Well, a recent announcement just minutes ago hints a return. Here is a quote from their official facebook page

We’ve changed the banner~ ♥ ♥ ♥ We’re finalising stuff now and hopefully we will be able to meet Goshujin-sama real soon! ^_^ ♥

Having said that, they have drop subtle hints on a return during the past few days. Will this be somehow related with Sozo’s recent project – Project MYnT or perhaps AFA 2010 ? Fans are definitely highly expecting any upcoming announcements on their fb page

AFA a.k.a. Anime Festival Asia is an event that celebrates all things related to Japanese anime and popular culture, its last event was held in Suntec Convention Halls during November last year

Hatsune Miku Solo Concert

The official site of Sega’s Hatsune Miku have announced that a Miku will be holding her solo concert on 9th March 09. The concert known as “Miku no Nichi Kanshasai 39′s Giving Day”, if you have guess it right, indeed..because “3/9″ can be pronounced in Japanese in the same way as the English word “thank you”

Hatsune Miku is a virtual idol that is pretty well known in the fan community around the world. The idol already performed “live” for the first time in August at the Animelo Summer Live 2009 Re:bridge concert and also performed in Singapore during the Anime Festival Asia 2009, held last month.

Time is really fast and we are already reaching the end of 2009, November was a fun month for us cos of AFA 09 and we hope you enjoyed the articles that churned out for the event. For a list of the articles related to AFA 09, click here.

Greetings everyone, I am Eriol, the new writer and photographer in the house. ^-^ Nice to meet you.

I received a invitation from oOga last night to join this great website that have been around providing many valuable news and quick updates to people all over the world. Its my pleasure to join the team.

Just a short introduction about myself. I am 22 this year, just finish serving the nation. People in the Singapore Cosplay Community knows me as Eriol from SGcafe, actually I was quite low profile in the community as a otaku, anime lover, till last AFA08 when i was inspired by many great cosplays and the amount of anime and Japanese Subculture fans in Singapore. And it woke me up, I thought of “I should do what I love to”

Studied Multimedia Technology during my school days, so naturally I liked doing media related works such as videos, audio, and photography. EOY 08 was the first event I attended with my friend’s DSLR camera, and then I started my long journey till now. Without EOY 08 and the first event team that invited me to a photoshoot, I don’t think I am the Eriol that people in the community as now. And thanks for the many support up till now, I will do my best to bring you people latest event updates and news if possible.

Again, you will notice a slight difference in the looks of the site, or rather, some relocation of stuff. Apart from that, everything looks pretty much the same

The 2 day AFA09 did boost our traffic significantly and also created a record peak of bandwidth used.

We have hit a new level of an average of 7500+ unique visitors a day, reaching 768,695 pageview impressions. I will leave out the top5 browsers or whatsoever, since it is still the same. The end of year is coming, we are looking forward to the EOY cosplay event which will feature Makino Yui in an evening concert.

Eriol’s AFA09 Cosplay Photos & Aftermath

The event that are highly anticipated over the region this year – Anime Festival Asia 09 had ended with a splash, with the 2-day concert event I LOVE ANISONG highlight. I’m sure that many are feeling very empty right now, like me. Really enjoyed and appreciated the event highlights especially the Regional Cosplay Competition (RCC), K-ON! seiyuu “live dubbing”, and of course – the I LOVE ANISONG concert.

I wasn’t really active taking photos on the first day as I was in fanboy mood for Shokotan’s autograph. And after playing Pokewalker with her .. i literally flew to Shokoland. Nevertheless, during day 1, I enjoyed alot during the RCC and meeting new friends in the process, one of them is from Malaysia. Without our friends of other countries, how would Anime Festival “ASIA” be as its named? Really glad that there are visitors, cosplayers, supporters and fans from other parts of the region to gathered at our tiny red dot.

Day 2, I covered more on cosplayers, but not before being trapped in the epic crowd of the Dubbing machine and Karaoke machine demo, and most anticipated highlight – the K-ON! seiyuus live dubbing and Q & A session. The crowd was scary, everyone is kinda crazy about the seiyuu /or K-ON!. To protect the rights of the seiyuus, the management had actually “requested” the audience not to take photos or videos in the process, which ended up in a few unhappy incidents involving the organizers and the audiences. Despite of that, I really hope that the Japanese side will still let their artistes come over.

Cosplays standards had indeed improved alot too ^^. And throughout the event, I observed that there are kids cosplayers with their parents as the photographers. Is it a new trend?! It was really a good news, at least we know that cosplay culture ain’t disappearing in Singapore, despite the fact I’ve heard from other cosplayers and photographers that some of the cosplayers will be quitting due to their school, work commitments.

Anyway I had some photos too share with everyone. Its a combination of Day 1 and Day2 of AFA09. The next event that I will be covering will most probably be a JROCK event called the Project Breakout! 3. Which was organized by a few JRock band members for JRock music lovers in Singapore. The second day of the Anime Festival Asia (AFA) 2009 was more or less the same as the first day; many cosplayers, awesome guests of honour, packed concerts, hordes of photographers etc.

I spent most of my time on the 3rd level of the Suntec convention hall, which was regarded to have the widest and brightest spots for cosplay photography. Unfortunately, everybody else have the same idea too so there’s a literal wall of photographers from one end of the floor to the other.

One of the things that AFA stand out for was the fact that there’s a diverse range of nationalities among the people visiting the event. It bodes well for future events to come and I would like to drop by again next year.

Here are my shots of the cosplayers on the 2nd day, as well as a few random shots. There’s also a few rare cosplays being showcased too, so enjoy!

Appearing for the second time, the Anime Festival Asia (AFA) promises to be one of Singapore’s largest ACG-related event, if not one of the region’s. I was pleased to be able to attend this year as this would mean catching up with my foreign friends who took the time to travel here from their own home countries.

For the first time, AFA is also organising a regional cosplay competition featuring cosplayers from Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia and the Philippines. It was refreshing to see cosplayers from other countries showcasing their amazing cosplay and choreography, but Singapore took the honours by winning both the Special and Grand Prize. Congratulations to the 00 Emotions team for winning it all!

Today’s AFA 09 was spectacular with more cosplayers dawning in their costumes ! Hailing from The Philippines, Alodia was cosplaying as Mirai-chan in dannychoo.com’s booth while her sister(?) Ashley cosplayed as Haruka. They really look so beautiful and cute! :D Here is a post dedicated to some of the shots for Alodia.

Eriol’s AFA09 Day 1 Experience

Just to keep it short and sweet.

AFA09 the long await event of the year had just finished it first day of exhibition.

It’s 3am right now, 7 hours to the next opening of Anime Festival Asia 09.

I reached the event venue at around 8.30am, and was surprisingly shocked at the amount of people standing, seating randomly without order. When clarified with my friends which are in it, they simply replied that there are no official queue for going into the event and the others are just there to buy the entrance tickets. I think this would be improved on.

There were two queues concert pass holder queue and the normal ticket queue. By 9.50am alot of people were already present at the concert holder queue. I was quite please to see that the management reverse the situation from a no order queue to 2 queue systems.

The concert pass entrance opened first for us to enter! And look who I found?!

The people who had the privilege of coming into the convention hall earlier main raiding targets are the KKNM, COSPA and CDS. Lucky for them, they are the first few who are able to get the limited edition exclusives that each shop had installed for them ^^. For me, a poor guy, i took a walk around the event hall an found that the space of the place is reduced due to the I LOVE ANISONG stage, but thankfully, there are still changing area for the cosplayers. The only problem is for them to move around inside and there are not really a place allotted for them to take photos.

As a result, a wall of cosplayers and photographers gathered outside the hall and increased the difficulty of the human traffic from my observation. Just alot of cosplayers are not ready yet, I continued to take some photos of figmas and the mechas that will on display.

The next moment, I knew, I as at the stage area waiting for the Regional Cosplay Competition to start and met up with oOgA. With the agents all around the hall how can we not get scoops for you otakus and readers out there?!

The cosplay competition will be on another post that oOgA is currently writing ^^ Other the the reowned Japanese cosplayer KANAME san which presented the certificate of participation to the teams, Shokotan and Ichirou san also made a special appearence for the prize presentation to the special award and the grand prize winners.

The next happening totally off-tracked me to the extent that I would use the sentence: ” I have been sent to heaven”

Shokotan autograph session was announce after the prize presentation, and Eriol, the super hardcore fan of course will go to meet his idol! The AFA shop was suddenly packed with people queuing to buy her goods which includes the SINGLE : KOKORO NO ATENNA and her debut album “BIG BANG”. Majority of the people bought “BIG BANG” as it includes the popular anime opening song “SORAIRO DAYS” from TENGEN TOPPA GURREN LAGUNN!

I was the 21st person in the queue of the 100 limit. I met some new and interesting friends from different background, a graduate from media arts degree which came as a translation for a media respresentatives and a otaku from Malaysia! Apparently they will linked up at some anime forums and came to this event together. ^^

The queue started moving around 3.50pm when Shokotan appears to start the autograph session, and was interviewed and she spoke a little of Cantonese.

IF I said Friday was the luckiest day of my life, I will say AFA day 1, 21 NOV is my happiest.

As it came to my turn, Shokotan recognizes me from the airport, and my GIZAMIMI PICHU plushie I brought to the event to cheer her on at the I LOVE ANISONG concert. Her manager recognises me too as I was at the airport, and brought out Shokotan’s Pokewalker, and Shokotan did a infra-red communicate with mine to get items.

IT WAS A DREAM COME THROUGH. When communicating, she saw my GIZAMIMI PICHU’s name was GIZA SHOKO and was very delighted and commented “KAWAII NEE!”. I got a TM29 – Psychic, and she got a Thunderstone. Here the diary of my Pokewalker after I transfer my Pichu back to the Pokemon Heart Gold game. YAY! her Pokemon was coincidentally a PIKACHU!

After that the autograph session ended ard 4.40pm. And I went to a fastfood to have some drink and restore the HP for the night of I LOVE ANISONG. By the time I came back it was already 5.30pm. 30minutes before the “doors opens for the concert pass holders”. Which didn’t happened till much later.

The first performance is by SHOKOTAN, she sang 残酷な天使のテーゼ and Sorairo Days and Kokoro no Atenna and many more sangs from GURREN LAGUNN and other songs. Her voice and presence are truly amazing! We will really fortunately to have her perform in Singapore! Those who will there! You knew what I am talking about, its nothing compared to the CDs you got from the stores or net. ITS ALIVE! She ended the performance with ロマンティックあげるよ from Dragonball!

Took a chance to rest my hands, and put my lightsticks and the Pichu plushie aside, yes, if you saw a big guy waving like mad with a Pichu plushie, that will be yours truly.

The next performance was by the virtual idol Hatsune Miku starts and many Vocaloids fans cheered and followed the rhythm and wave their lightsticks and screams of joy are heard from all sides! The graphics aren’t really great, will not comment much about it, those who were there will know what I meant. It can be improved!

Of course the day wouldn’t end without having our King of Anisongs who sang more the 1200 songs in his 40 year singing career! He sang songs after songs till I had lost count, and often crack some jokes for us! It was truly magnificient to have the legend back in Singapore again!

The encore portion was really nice with Shokotan and his idol ANIKI on the same stage singing songs 進めゴレンジャー, クロスファイト, マジンガーＺ! duet!!

So the day had ended wonderfully the happiest man on earth. I hope this will continue!

Hope to see you at AFA 09 later! shrugs its 4.14am.. i need some rest now. Will get to sleep after listening finish May’n's What about my star?!

AFA ’09 Regional Cosplay Championship Coverage

Kaname-san gives a hug to the Gundam – priceless

The AFA Regional Cosplay Championship was a hit today, with Kaname-san as one of the judges for the cosplay finalists. It was an event full of fun as the cosplayers from various countries performed their skits. Special guests who also appeared in the prize giving ceremony includes Shoko-tan and also Ichirou Mizuki ! Read on and enjoy the photo coverage!

ST Revolution from Singapore get the ball rolling with their skit. Very nice performance and dramatic scenes. I wonder how many fans of them were shouting away during their performance :D

Sakai no Gumi is from Malaysia, their lovely combination of white costumes and their funny skit got the crowd into some interesting laughter. Personally speaking, I do hope they have a better background video with some better fonts or something as it sort of turnoff with it in the background.

Endless Illution from Indonesia came up with Lineage2 cosplay which was awesome especially on the costume.Reflective surface produced the results needed when lights on the stage shine on it (look at photo). Kaname-san even commented that the costume, which look normal produced the results on stage.

The Gundam 00 Emotions team from Singapore brings the performance with complex looking Gundam costume with some bling.

Houshin Engi, a very cute team from Thailand put up a funny performance as well.

Alodia and Ashley, hot sexy ladies as the host call them. They are from the Philippines, giving an exciting fighting scene in Witchblade. Another costume with bling, this is perhaps another team that I like as well. What do you guys think ? Apart from the main participating teams, we also have some teams who were presented with certificates for participation but not qualified into the final round

For those who aren’t aware, one of them is our resident blogger who has her own blog under TBE – hiyuki! Yes, sadly, I didn’t catch a photo of her and Kaname-san together :3

Shokotan’s Arrival at Singapore! and rehearsals [updated]

Eriol is proud to inform everyone that Shokotan had safely arrived in Singapore. Today no barricades are setup due to the number of fans welcome her is not much.

I will roughly narrate my encounter. I was the first to spot her before anyone could, and used my GIZAMIMI PICHU folder to get her attention. haha it works. she spotted us and the AFA organizers and press and kept waving back at us. After that, we went to the glass door to wait for her to come out, and I changed my equipped item to GIZAMIMI PICHU plushie. and followed them to the van[sorta like escorts].

After she boards the van, she spent around 20seconds staring at the cloudy skies of Singapore. And her crew boarded the van and continue to chat and there are some sort of filming going on in the van as well. While being interviewed, she didn’t forgot about us and kept waving her hands and smiling and nodding her hand in a thankful way.

A few minutes before the van drives off, she noticed the POKEWALKER device on my I LOVE ANISONG lanyard and open her bag to find hers and wave hers at me. That moment was really priceless ^^, afterall she was the one who introduced to JAPAN and the world about the device on POKEMON SUNDAY.

Anyway, she blogged about her first meal in Singapore. Make a guess?

ITS HAINANESE CHICKEN RICE! she had it at a food court of some shopping mall. And she had met up with May’n already.

Went to take a sneak peek of the stage its really nice and they will doing technical testings, hopes everything will turn out good tomorrow. Also collected the concert pass, the lanyard design is simple and sweet and nice, but I find that the concert pass itself would be better. Also collected my autograph voucher for May’n and Shokotan’s autograph.

Press Preview For AFA ’09 – Celebrities Up Close

It was a whole lot excitement during lunch at Animation Asia Conference (AAC) 09, when Moe Moe Kyun head meido – Yoshimi gives the press a sneak preview with the celebrities up close. Needless to say, all the photographers swarm up like bees and start snapping. I am one of them.

In the small stage, we have Kaname, May’n, Ichirou Mizuki, AFA-kun, Mamoru Hosoda and Danny Choo. Each of them giving a sneak of what to expect in the event. Here are the videos I managed to take while snapping photos. (it’s tough to do this while tweeting as well :P )

Yes, you had received news, seen it, heard it about our guest Danny Choo @ the Merlion and Orchard Ion.

On the other hand, hours ago at Changi Airport T1 and T2, some of the regional cosplayers arrived, followed by Aniki!, May’n and Kaname. The management had asked all the non-officials to keep their cameras and HP to protect the rights of the artists.

- After landing SG, May’n had blogged 2 times at her blog.

TBE Website Layout Change During AFA09

You might have noticed the website layout change with the articles on the main page related to AFA 09. Rest assured, it is not a bug problem but I have changed the website layout specially for this weekend where our writers will be blogging about their experiences about AFA 09.

We have also included a twitter feed inthe main page as well where we shall tweet on any random happenings that might go on there (videos and photos if possible). So stay tuned and check out our twit here.

AAC is going to start soon today while AFA will commence tomorrow. Preparing to go suntec to check out AAC soon.

AFA09 is finally round the corner.

For cosplayers, have you got your costumes, props ready? if not, GANBATTE NEE~~

For photographers, probably got your lens cleaned, or maybe rented some imba lens to cover the event?

For all, do remember its a big event, and will be very crowded, do keep your belongings close to you or ask your friends or helpers to take care for you. And bring enough water and fan to cool and rehydrate yourself! AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, OKANE! which is MONEY!

Concert-goers : LIGHTSTICKS, BANNERS/BOARDS, and whistles!

Lastly, please take care of your health!
