It was an enjoyable event in Microsoft Singapore’s office with fellow Vr-Zone members yesterday as the crew and I attended a Windows 7 Preview Event. It was pretty much an informal session with Matthew Hardman, Windows Client Lead for Microsoft Singapore who gave some a brief insight of some of the features in Windows 7 and why you should get excited about it ?
Well of course, Konata tagged along with me and was inspired by the beautiful scenery outside the office. I guess Konata’s keen interest in gaming has inspired her to work for Microsoft one day ? :3
A total of around 60 members from Vr-Zone attended this event with buffet dinner served with the event which came later and ended with a Q&A session. Everything ended in around almost 10 if i recall it right. It was fun, I hope you guys who attended enjoyed the event too.

Windows, Life Without Walls

Keith from Microsoft. He is inspirational

Matthew Hardman, Windows Client Lead for Microsoft Singapore. He is inspirational as well

the User Account Control (UAC), it has been refined and made better. Now at least, it does not ask you everytime , there is a option to remember your settings

Anti Phishing, yes, not fishing. A feature that been refined in Internet Explorer 8. Do you use it ?

hmm…

Web slices, a very effective feature imo for IE8. Learn more here

Translate with Bing on the go with IE8.

Windows 7’s Search Federation. Learn more here

Bitlocker on the go feature allows you to encrypt your removable drives on Windows 7. Once encrypted, you will be prompted to enter a password when open the drive. According to Matthew, this is a Windows 7 feature but if you plug in the drive onto a PC with Windows XP / Vista, you can only read the data from it and not write.
Some might find it unreasonable as you cant write data on Win XP / Vista but the idea is to protect the data from where it originated from. A walk-through is available by Microsoft here

Media streaming from your home with the latest build of Windows Media Player

Problem Steps Recorder
Omg….this is the feature that is most sought after prolly by Helpdesk people or even support staff who does documentation. Basically it records screenshots of the steps you take to produce a problem. Various screenshots are saved into a mht file, compressed into a zip file. Good for making documentation too. Here is a video recording.(not very gd quality, sorry for that)

I’ve been using Windows 7 since the beta and currently using the RC version. I really like some of the features, such as the new tidy task bar and the windows snap feature.
Shame I don’t have the spare cash right now to get it, so I’ll be reverting back to XP pro when my trial ends.
i actually quite like win 7.also been using it since beta to the current rtm build 7600
is quite enjoyable to use and is quite a lot faster then vista
boot ups is noticeable faster then xp apparently or is it just me?
anyway the toolbar is great with locking apps on it
looks better too and less cluttered then vista or xp
Why you didnt asked the girls to hold konata? You miss a good chance.. lol!!
lol..guess i was shy ? :p it was kinda late back when i took the shots so I didn’t think of that. :3
Win7 is looking up. At least, it looks like the Windows that Vista was supposed to be.
Regarding the 3rd winner, the prize look like a wireless mouse to me.
If i had vista, then yeah, i might look forward to it. But since i have a mac, i dont really care. Plus, some of the features i saw there i already have… hmm?
I’m glad you enjoyed yourself at the Windows 7 preview. I’ll definitely keep you guys in the loop for future Microsoft events.
PS: We’d be happy to hold Konata for you next time! Just let us know, don’t be shy :)
It is nice being called “inspirational”, though I have no idea what I did to deserve that :)
But thanks for the review. I love it and I hope you guys had a good time. We are definitely going to get you guys back soon.
Just a reminder that we will be picking our Netbook winner soon. so if you have not submitted your video please do so now at http://www.yourpcsimplified.com. It is really easily, just tell us why we should give you the netbook and it could be yours! It can be a 10 sec clip or a 30 mins documentary. Length of the clip doesn’t matter. Turn on your webcam and start shooting. (since this is the first one we are giving away, your chance of winning is extremely good. ;))
cya!- Keith
I guess that means one thing: my family needs a new pc!
I’m quite surprised my 12 year old pc (hardly any upgrades since my mom bought that thing) can handle an OS as recent as Vista!! But with all it’s memory running at full capacity every time we run it, I guess my old boy has climbed it’s last mountain! LOL
Meanwhile, me and my sis are enjoying our mac pro laptops! 8D
