A student who is an avid fan of his manga comics and also a gamer who loves World of Warcraft stabbed a professor in NTU, a university in Singapore before sliting his wrist and jumping from 5 floors above to his death.
Shocking – David Hartanto Widjaja is a Indo-Chinese student who excels in his studies, also a ex-President for his school’s Electronic Games Club.
Discussions on forums are all over the web on what might have caused him to snap.
The meeting with his professor who was his project supervisor ended with a bloody mess. Professor was stabbed and the student slits his wrist before he wonders to a top of a linkway. The end was a jump to his death leaving a bloody trail behind.

He seems to have been quite smart, so maybe he failed his final year project for that professor’s subject, and thus he snapped. It could be one reason.
Teacher must have told him that he sucks at WoW or that he hacked his account. Or he told him stuff like “Spike dies” or something. Dunno.
Love how in such news, there is always that small, insignificant detail that the kid read manga and played games. As if indirectly blaming his behavior on those hobbies. Wait… OSNAPS! WHEN WILL I START KILLING PEOPLE??? RUN FOR YOUR LIVES!!111oneonehundredeleven
Also shows that “excels in his studies” does NOT correlate with living the peaceful and successful life…
The professor got stabbed wasn’t even involved with his scholarship, which was the reason why the poor man lost it.
@DrmChsr0: exactly. Leave it to the local media to pin the blame on games and manga when nothing definitive has come out. If you read the whole source article, the first paragraph is completely unnecessary and unrelated and only serves to place further negative publicity on the effect of games and manga.
Then again, coming from the Singapore media I guess it’s not so surprising anyway.

For me, persoanlly I think, If a genius can be turned to be a maniac and stabbed his proffesor and then kill himself, I suggest not to go to study in this tiny country which can change a genius to be a maniac, who be next? others Indonesian shopper in ochard road? Hongkong and Macau in cheaper in everythings agian everythings, why should risk yourself to go to a country which cant guaranty your safety……..
Moreover, when we look at the Degree of those professor in singapore, they got it from UK, US etc, so why dont we go straigh to those countries?.
If talking about facilites, advance technology to be learn, or scholarship, I beleived they all are much much much better indeed.
Infact I experienced myself.
Rest in Peace Dave…..!!!
