Electronics company, Pioneer have announced on their official site that it will stop making Laser Disc players. Commonly known as LD players, the discs were the great grandfathers of disc technology before CDs and DVDs took over eventually. Since its launch at 1981, a total of about 360 million units were sold. However, with the new media (Blu ray, DVDs) getting popular, production got difficult eventually.

Remember the good old days when animes were on Laserdiscs ? Yes, better quality over those video tapes. Of course, back then, the discs were big and much costly.

Have you owned an anime series on a Laser disc before ?

Rest in Peace, Laser Disc. We will…in a way remember you.
