The Anime Festival Asia 2009 (AFA 09), incorporating Animation Asia Conference 2009 (AAC 2009) is South East Asia’s biggest event celebrating all things related to Japanese animation and popular culture. Right here in Suntec City today, a 1 day business press conference took place. The Banzai! Effect, among with other bloggers and of course most importantly, various corporate bodies and and relevant associates attended this event.
AFA 09 will take place in Suntec International Convention and Exhibition Centre (Hall 403 and 404) on the 21st and 22nd November 2009 and also a business conference (AAC 09) on the 20 November 2009 in the same venue.
I am sure many of you fans out there are eager and excited, the official website of AFA 2009 is now LIVE and you guys know who are the stars who are gonna perform. :D
AFA 2009 will span over 5000 sqm of space, featuring various highlights including Akiba Town Marketplace, Anime Blockbusters, Kids Land, Regional Cosplay Chamionships, Moe moe kyun Cafe and an exclusive AFA specialty shop.
Performing Artistes @ “I LOVE ANISONG” MEGA MUSIC CONCERT
This year, we have four artistes who will be flying down to Singapore for the event.
May’n and Aniki will be back in AFA 09, along with 2 popular artistes will be joining in AFA 2009. YES! Shoko Nakagawa (NOM NOM NOM ~), a.k.a. Shoko-tan and Yoshiki Fukuyama, singing voice of Nekki Basara and member of JAM Project. w00t! ;)
A quick breakdown of Shokotan who is also known as a Blogger Queen. Her blog has achieved more than 1 billion hits to her site with her unique slang. A phenomenal success and it is her first time performance right here in Singapore in AFA 2009.
Yoshiki Fukuyama, as some will remember his singing role as Nekki Basara in Macross 7 will also make his performance in Singapore. An acclaimed guitarist, singer and songwriter, fans of his are definitely going wild on that day of his performance.
Taking this music concert to a whole new level, ” I LOVE ANISONG” concert aims to thrill both anime and music fan lovers in a new breakthrough benchmark.

Regional Cosplay Competition
The AFA Regional Cosplay Competition will be targeted towards the countries in South East Asia. The top cosplay team from each South East Asian country will be sponsored by AFA09 to compete in the Regional Cosplay Championship during the two-day anime festival where they will perform and be judged by a panel of distinguished guests from Japan including internationally renowned cosplayer Kaname.
More highlights will be launched on the official site of AFA 09 on the 8th September 2009, so stay tuned.
Moe Moe Kyun Cafe
If you guys have been following AFA’s twitter closely, you would have known about the Moe Moe Kyun Maid Cafe as a feature in the event itself. Indeed, one of the press con main highlights were those lovely meidos who made a sneak appearance to “soothe our souls”. Right. You got it there – “soothe our souls”. The girls have went through a very tough picking process to bring you the utmost moe level in the cafe.
Dannychoo
Even if you are not a blogger, you might have heard of his name. The Blogger of “Best Japan Blog” of 2009 (July 2009 Forbes Magazine) will appear at Anime Festival Asia 2009 and will also speak at Asia Animation Conference 2009. His website – dannychoo.com garners massive traffic per month.
Danny will also be showcasing his very own “Mirai-chan” related merchandise in the event and also host the “Bandai x Dannychoo x AFA 09 World Gunpla Competiton” via his Mirai Gaia platform. Check out his site to know more.
Word has it that he might be in his stormtrooper costume in Singapore.
Bandai and Gundam
This is the 30th Anniversary of Bandai’s most important franchise, Gundam. Key feature in AFA 09 includes a time tunnel showcasing the various Gundam series through the years along with showcasing a large portion of their products.
There will be competitions, more details will be revealed.
