Anime Festival Asia 2008 (AFA’08) Coverage – 22nd Nov 08

The Anime Festival Asia 08 (AFA 08) had kick start with people queuing for tickets as early as 7am, unfortunately for me, I had work but was able to secure a ticket with the help of a pre-order and a fellow blogger, nutcase23.

Right here in Suntec City Convention Hall, the Saturday event had ended some time ago with fans adoring some of the cute and moe figurines and also checking out the “latest” animes in the exhibition. Whats cool ? Whats not? check out here for day1 of the coverage.

Now, I do have my complaints in AFA but all comments are not directed to any personnel, staff, performers, etc.

yup, welcome

AFA 08 is basically grouped by 6 zones – Anime Blockbuster, Mangaka, Anime Live, Akiba Town, Planet Mech, Industry. Honestly, I am pretty impressed the extent that the event had went to, prolly because of a co-existing book fair, the group of people who are at AFA are bolstered to another extent.

Now heres what nutcase23 and I discovered in the morning and the afternoon respectively…

The Entrance Hall

here is what it is like at 7am…

The ticketing booth, honestly, it looks a lil cheesy, it was so cramped in the evenings..

ZOMG, the crowdz!

nutcase23: Oh, and did I mention I brought along Haruhi with me? So if you saw someone walking around with a Figma Haruhi strapped to him you know who it is ^^.

nutcase23 and I met each other in real..for the first time and thanks to him, I secured my ticket.

A special appearance in the morning…

nutcase23:

I managed to catch Ichirou Mizuki in his special appearance in the morning. Unfortunately, I’m not a fan of the genre so I’m pretty much clueless. I know a bunch of our local bloggers went to recieve him at the airport though.

I didn’t stay for his concert. Was too tired by then.

Akiba Town

While the name sounds it will be magnificent place to get your goodies, it indeed is a good place with booths from KKnM, Latendo, Hobby Art, etc. I have missed the uniques in the morning but whats is important is nothing but the FIGURINES that on display there. Yes, figurines..lovely.

this has to be my best shot ever with my powershot s5, standing without tripod. Tsukasa!

Miyuki..figma.. ;)

Konata..there aint a Kagami, as the pic is blurry and I deleted it.

Lucky Star..

Hatsune Miku Nendo

Len and Rin

the wonderful Vocaloid family..

Mikuru

another Mikuru

another….mikuru…

Enma Ai

Latendo

heh…CLANNAD FTW!

While the booths are small, the crowds are swarming and for KKnM, you have to queue up before you can enter the booth to check out the goodies. So make sure you prepare yourself what to buy. Do take note of their promotion by coming to their booth wearing original COSPA apparel (T-shirt, Jacket, Shirt etc) and you will receive a 10% discount off all COSPA merchandise at AFA 08

BANDAI

You know BANDAI, the mechas at the exhibition are definitely worth standing there and snapping your cameras away.

Okay…technically not a figurine ^^

nutcase23: My mecha fanatic friend went half bonkers over the stuff. Too bad his wallet isn’t as big as his love ^_^. The only thing I saw there I wanted was Figma Miyuki and the nendoroids. Posability is high on my list afterall.

The competition entries put on display were really impressive. Imagine the amount of work put in them.

WOOT!

Mangaka

Shonen Jump 40th anniversary world tour is right here in AFA 08, the booth consists of exclusive manga showcase amd even merchandise from Chuang Yi.

ARIA love

I LOVE THIS PIC

Kannagi…

<3

Anime Blockbusters / Anime Live

Odex is here, while we won’t touch much on the ongoing PR hatred against them,  their booth is pretty much well setup, showing previews of animes from Toradora, Code Geass, Shakugan no SHANA Season I, Skip Beat. It aint shabby and it is deifintely worth a visit to their booths.

A certain infamous company plugging their shows. Nothing against the show though.

I’ve heard about this one. Seems rather melancholy.

Sky Crawlers…

ARCADE GAMING COMPETITION

Street Fighter IV is definitely the main featured game here, damn, I love the smoothness of the graphics and fluid motion when executing the moves.

I managed to capture a video of the gameplay and I kinda like it, here is a flash video.

Stage Events

5 seconds competiton.. -_-

some Tamagotchi event.. -.-

QUIS, a Jrock band

“ANIKI” Ichirou Mizuki. Trust me, even some old people here have the hots for him. lots of camera flashing when he made his appearance. Unfortunately, the host requests not to have any recordings of any sort ;)

I wont be touching on Cosplayers yet but definitely later on, as the prize awarding ceremony is tomorrow and there was one particular cosplayer who caught my attention who had a sweet smile….

unfortunately to my shame, I am not sure who she is cosplaying as though..wonder if it is Tsukasa? maybe not.

Time for short sleep before I embark on the 2nd part of AFA 08.

This post is co-done by me and nutcase23 and with that, we wrap up our Day One coverage. It was fun though nutcase23 won’t be going down for Day Two unfortunately. Exams are around the corner. He have to study. And if anyone has noticed, the pictures are still watermarked as Anime Banzai. All I can say is, teething problems of a transition phase
