
Singapore Film Society (SFS) is proud to present Animation Nation 2009 (AN 2009). The festival is held in Oct 14 – 21 at the Gallery Theatre, National Museum of Singapore. Other venue partners include library@esplanade for the annual Singapore Showcase, and the *SCAPE Youth Centre for the Animation Development Workshop.
What Is Animation Nation ?
Animation Nation is an annual event in Singapore, that offer a ‘feast’ of International Animation, showcasing highly acclaimed and popular animation titles from all over the world. Along with it, the event include seminars for those animation professionals or those wanting to break into the industry to gather some insights.

For Japanese Animation Lovers ! ^^
Fans of Ghost in the Shell and Sky Crawlers can look forward to the latest offering from Production IG and Mamoru Oshii – Musashi: The Dream of The Last Samurai. After last year’s well received Genius Party, Genius Party Beyond promises more cutting edge work from Studio 4C. Barefoot Gen 1 & 2, the two part Japanese anime classic, would also be screened back to back during the festival.
Other Program Highlights include:
- A U.S. independent animation, From Inside is the tale of Cee, a pregnant woman who finds herself on a train journey across a bleak, apocalyptic wasteland. Based on the graphic novel by John Bergin, who also wrote, animated and directed the film.
- Best of Studio AKA showcases the best short animations and commercials done by the London-based, BAFTA-winning animation production company, known internationally for its idiosyncratic and innovative work.-
- Best of SIGGRAPH Asia 2008 Electronic Theatre is a free program courtesy of the organizers of last year’s inaugural SIGGRAPH Asia held in Singapore. This program showcases some of the best digital short animations from around the world.
- In the annual Singapore Showcase held at library@esplanade, we would be screening selected local short animations which are among the winners and participants of this year’s Digicon competition. Highlights include Tan Wei Keong’s Hush Baby (Special Mention, SIFF 09) and S.Bhakta’s My Father is a Washerman, made with the support of the MDA/SFS Animated Short Film Initiative. Invited filmmakers will be present for a post screening Q&A session.
