AFA 09 Press Con: Moe Moe Kyun Maids Preview

repeat after me … moe moe kyun~!

Even the MC host was kinda teasing the audience in the room as a sneak peek of the meidos (maids) who will appearing in Anime Festival Asia 2009 (AFA 09) was revealed. Lovely, cute, mesmerizing and a moe factor were prolly the words that I can think of  right now. Suffice to say, their appearance in the press conference was a teaser and available for photo shoots.

What is moe?

Moe (萌え) is a Japanese slang word originally referring to a strong interest in particular types of character in video games or anime and manga. For example, the attractive to fictional girls who wear glasses is known as meganekko moe. “Moe!” is also used within anime fandom as an interjection referring to a character the speaker considers to be a moekko. The term can even be found in some anime, such as Lucky Star and K-ON to describe certain characters or situations. Some say that moe is a pure, protective feeling towards a character. (Source: Wikipedia) In short, seeing a person with moe qualities would send one’s heart fluttering and feel all their troubles or even everything around them just melt away.

What is a maid cafe?
Evolved from the concept of cosplay restaurants, maid cafes feature waitresses dressed up in maid costumes. The maids would greet the customers with “Okaerinasaimase, goshujin-sama” or “Welcome home, Master (or Mistress, in some cases)” in English. The food served is typically western or, rarely, Japanese, in origin. Signature dishes include omelette rice and curry rice. These dishes are decorated with appropriate condiments like ketchup or chocolate.
