Politics, when we say it can be pretty assuming yet intriguing and today, as many people might have read the news, the Democratic Party of Japan (DPJ) has not unexpectedly crushed the ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) in a landslide victory, ending their almost uninterrupted 50 year reign with a victory which sees them on track to seize 308 seats in the 480 seat.

Democratic Party of Japan began talks on Monday in forming a new government, facing the tasks of reviving the struggling economy and reshaping ties with key world allies after its crushing election win. Hatoyama, 62, who is expected to be confirmed by parliament as prime minister in about two weeks will be forming a coalition with smaller partners such as the Social Democratic Party and the People’s New Party.

A whole new era for Japan ? Time will tell as the challenges are now in place for the new government to tackle and issues to handle. I wonder what is their take in the animation culure, unlike Aso who is known to be an anime fan, particularly his love for Rozen Maiden

TV Asahi said the DPJ would take 308 seats in the 480-seat lower house against 119 seats for the LDP, while public broadcaster NHK predicted the DPJ would take 306 seats, against 119 for the LDP.

The LDP – which since 1955 had been out of power for only 10 months, in the early 1990s – had 303 seats in the outgoing parliament to the DPJ’s 112.
