Currently watching Tokyo Magnitude which, despite what its “boring” subject matter, is quite entertaining.
And there’s a surprising plot twist recently which I didn’t quite expect.
WARNING!!! SPOILERS AFTER THE JUMP!!!

I honestly never expected Yuuki to have died a few episodes back what with the cheerful images in the ED sequence and Mirai having what we know know as some seriously realistic delusions of Yuuki running around all healthy and such.
Though I guess that would explain a few unusual things that has happened so far like why Mari was brooding over Mirai since episode 9 (so would anyone if a girl who just lost her brother was talking to air). That would also explain the unusual appearances and disappearances of Yuuki as well as the mystery in episode 9 where Yuuki was “seen” sitting with Mirai on the military vehicle with his bag but Mari was also seen chasing after Mirai with the SAME bag in hand.

Tokyo Magnitude, from the way I see it, is not just a natural disaster show but also one of self-discovery, human compassion and resilience.
I have no idea what their “research” entailed but I rather liked how BONES threw in all the emergency protocols that would have been taken in an actual earthquake as well as some examples of disaster-assistance robots.
Then again, I could just be finding this interesting since Singapore will not likely get hit by any major earthquake for as long as I live.

Don’t expect much heart-thumping action like those volcano exploding movies (I can only recall Dante’s Peak for some reason).
This show is just plain old storytelling about the consequences of a major earthquake in Japan.
And oh what wonderful storytelling it is.

Sad to see the series over so soon, one more episode to go. I enjoyed it quite a bit, really didn’t expect something like they did with Yuuki, but as of ep 9 I thought something was weird and by the time they exposed the truth I had already assumed that was what happened. Good storytelling it truly is.
Loved this anime; looked forward to watching it every week. I just finished watching the last episode and actually cried! Never did that before from watching anime. I went from wanting to hit Mirai and telling her to grow up in the first 3-4 episodes to crying with her in the last. Her seiyuu did an excellent job. I thought it was wonderful storytelling and the 3 main characters (Mari, Mirai & Yuuki) were nicely rendered with their seiyuus well matched to the characters.
I certainly did not see that one coming, though the bag was a telltale. I just wish it hadn’t happened, wish the episode was another one of her bad dreams.
