By the way. in fact, the radical 艹 was originally written as 艸, the original form of 草 (grass), then it was transformed to 十十 when used as a radical. In calligraphy it was simplified into 艹 in Cao Shu (草书, fast cursive writing). It was only about 100 years ago when the Japanese officially changed it to 艹 in standard writing. 40 years later the Chinese followed it when creating the ’simplified Chinese characters’.

A fun fact is that 艹 was also an alternative writing of 廿, meaning twenty, because it consists of two ten’s, just as 卅 means thirty :)
