AFA 09 I Love Anisong Day 1 Concert – My Thoughts

And so I have attended my very first anisong concert as a concert ticket holder.

I won’t say it was OMGHOLYWTFBBQ or that sort of thing. But it was definitely enjoyable.

Day 1 performances included Shoko-tan, Hatsune Miku and Mizuki Ichirou (a.k.a Aniki)

Shoko-tan: I enjoyed her rendition of TTGL songs the most since I love the songs and the anime. The Cruel Angel Thesis opening number was also nice. She worked the crowd pretty well and I swear I could feel the ground vibrating from the combined movement of the crowd when she went “Hey! Hey! Hey!” during the breaks in the songs.

Hatsune Miku: I think I had the most expectation for her which led to me feeling a little let down. It was not like the holographic displays in animelo and consisted of her performing the usual numbers “Mikku Miku ni Shite ageru”, “Koisuru Vocaloid” and “World is Mine” on screen only. That was enjoyable by itself (although I felt that her part seemed like “filler” compared to the main artists), what is not exactly good was the fact that the show LAGGED. Miku was rendered on a flat field with no background objects and it LAGGED. What? I could feel the mood with some of the crowd too. 2D idols still have some way to go before people can understand their appeal :3

Mizuki Ichirou (a.k.a Aniki): To be perfectly honest, I have never heard of any of the songs he sang today. Nonetheless, I can see why so many praise his vocals. They certainly are powerful. During the final duets he sang with Shoko-tan, it was almost like he was drowning out Shoko-tan’s voice XD. Unfortunately, he didn’t speak english very well which left the audience pretty confused during some of his questions. I actually understood him better when he spoke in Japanese than when he did in english :3.

To wrap things up, a wonderful night, and hopefully, another wonderful night again on Day 2.
